The three rules behind these questions
Have it in writing. Insurers and clients now ask for a written AI policy. Your bar and the AICPA assume you have governance.
Mind the notetaker. AI notetakers capture voiceprints and confidential discussion. In Illinois, capturing them without consent triggers BIPA penalties of $1,000 to $5,000 per person.
Protect client data. ABA Opinion 512 and the AICPA Confidential Client Information Rule both say client information does not go into a self-learning AI tool without the right tool and consent. And verify every citation, because AI invents them.
